CO2 Electrolysis

In order to achieve global net-zero CO2 emission goals, all sectors – from energy and transport sector to chemical industry – have to find sustainable solutions. Especially in the chemistry sector, fossil energy as well as fossil feedstocks need to be replaced. Electrochemical reduction of CO2 could close the carbon-loop while using captured CO2 and producing C1 to C3 products like CO, formic acid or ethylene.
The research of the CO2 electrolysis team focuses on the reduction of CO2 producing CO (and ethylene) using zero-gap electrolyzer. The team consists of engineers and chemists working on catalyst synthesis and characterization, development of membrane electrode assemblies and optimization of operation conditions for CO2 electrolyzer.
